Events
SONDIP annually organizes both traditional and modern events in Turku. Events are generally open to all and free of charge. In the event calendar you can see the current events of our Association and member associations.
Multicultural Independence Day celebration:
Sondip ry has organized a multicultural Independence Day celebration in 2022 and 2023 with the Together Association, the Ukrainian Association, the City of Turku and other cooperation entities.
Etnofest is a free, happy and colorful spring festival for the whole family in Varissuo. In 2023, the Etnofest event has been organized in the yard of “Majanummi” and it is one of the most anticipated events in the residential area. There have been 500 participants in the event. In addition to well-known music artists, Etnofest has offered various dance performances, workshops and stalls where you can buy traditional home-cooked food from different countries. Etnofest is traditionally held in May.
RunosRaiku – Sondip ry has organized the RunosRaiku event in cooperation with Together association, the city of Turku and other partners in 2022 and 2023.

Mahdollisuuksien tori “The Market of opportunity” is traditionally held in September in Turku’s old market square. At this event we aim to raise awareness of global issues and get acquainted with about forty non-governmental associations and their activities. The preparations for the event are being conducted by Sondip and the markets are an activity supported by KEPA, a cooperation development umbrella association . The theme of the event varies annually, for example in 2018 thetheme was “Samal pual jokke” (on the same side of the river), which wanted to highlight the importance of working together for a fairer and more sustainable world.
Turku International Book Fair traditionally held in the Turku Exhibition Centre in October. Sondip is involved in designing the program and general arrangements.
Finnish Independence Day Festival is an event held annually in December, celebrating Finland’s independence and a diverse Finland. Sondip is involved in organizing the event in cooperation with the City of Turku and other multicultural associations. The Independence Festival program includes dance, music and poetry. The event is open to all and free of charge, but participation in the event requires prior registration. There is no dress code, dress casual or in Finland’s national dress.
An anti-racist week will be held in March. During the week there will be several different events, rallies and workshops around Turku. The week culminates in an anti-racist celebration organized by Sondip, where you can enjoy excellent speeches, dances performances, music and, of course, good food.
Culture days are part of the Suburb Weeks organized by the City of Turku. Culture days are traditionally celebrated in May and the program has different associations presenting their own culture in their own way, eg through dance or music. In addition, typical dishes from different cultures will be served.
